October 29, 2002 Island, San Juan, Skagit and Whatcom counties to hear and talk about Puget Sound OLYMPIA -The Puget Sound Water Quality Action Team's (Action Team) advisory organization, the Puget Sound Council, will host a regional meeting in Mount Vernon in November to talk with Island, San Juan, Skagit and Whatcom county residents about protecting and improving the health of Puget Sound. The Puget Sound Council's regional meeting is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 4, at Skagit County PUD, 1415 Freeway Dr., in Mount Vernon, from 10 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. This is the second regional Council meeting with a subset of the full Puget Sound Council that is hosting meetings in communities around the Sound. "At our first meeting in the west part of Puget Sound, we heard encouraging reports from citizens and tribal and local governments who are working together to solve problems in Puget Sound," said Scott Redman, acting chair for the Action Team. "At our upcoming meeting in Mount Vernon, I look forward to hearing from people in the northern counties about what they are doing in and for the Sound and what they need from the Council and Action Team to continue their work." The Council is made up of representatives from business, agriculture, the shellfish industry, environmental organizations, local and tribal governments and the legislature, and it advises the Action Team, a state organization charged with developing and carrying out activities for the Sound.
