DRUGS IN SKAGIT: A DOSE OF REALTIY

Mount Vernon, WA -- On Thursday, November 6, the Forum will host presentations and a participatory discussion on the impacts of local drug use to individuals, families and the community. The Forum will identify and discuss trends in illicit drug production, drug abuse, treatment, the court system, and the consequences and costs to residents directly or indirectly involved.

Presenters are Lt. Ken Bergsma, Mount Vernon Police, who serves as the head of the Skagit County Inter-local Drug Enforcement Unit; Bob Hicks, Resource Manager for Skagit County Youth and Family Services, and former Director of Pioneer Center North, a local involuntary chemical dependency treatment center; Bob Ekblad, Executive Director of Tierra Nueva and The People's Seminary, and Skagit County Jail Chaplain; Mario Salinas, advocate for the treatment and recovery of substance abusers; and, Judge John Meyer, Superior Court Judge and presiding judge for Skagit County Drug Court.

The brief formal presentations will be followed by a discussion period open to all attending. The professionally moderated meeting is free and open to the public. It takes place from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Public Utility District's Aqua Room at 1415 Freeway Drive, Mount Vernon.
