Welcome to Skagit County
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
SKAGIT COUNTY TO PROVIDE ROADSIDE PICK UP OF FLOOD DAMAGED ITEMS IN HAMILTON AND CAPE HORN Citizens asked to place items on road in front of house for pick up SKAGIT COUNTY The Skagit County Public Works Department will be conducting roadside pick up of flood damaged items in the Hamilton, Shangri-La, and Cape Horn communities on November 5-6, 2003. This is an effort to remove flood damaged materials as quickly and efficiently as possible, said Solid Waste Section Manager Gary Sorensen. County crews will be in the Cape Horn area on Wednesday, November 5 and in the Hamilton, Shangri-La communities on Thursday, November 6. Citizens are asked to place their flood damaged items on the roadside for pick up. Household appliances will be staged at a designated site for recycling. Refrigerators and freezers must be emptied off all contents prior to removal. Hazardous materials should not be set out at the roadside. A hazardous materials collection site will be established at the big map area of Cape Horn on Saturday, November 1, and in the downtown area of Hamilton, November 2. Currently a number of dumpsters are positioned in these communities for public use for flood damaged items only. The public is advised not to overload the dumpsters as this prevents them from being moved efficiently. A voucher system is in effect for those citizens who wish to transport their flood damaged items to Skagit County solid waste facilities. These waivers can be given to the site attendant and normal fees will be waived. The Household Hazardous Waste facility located at the Fredonia Transfer Station is open seven days a week through November 8. The Sauk Transfer Station is adding two additional days per week and is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday until further notice.
