Construction on Martha’s Place Began on Monday, November 1

Skagit County Public Health, and Catholic Housing Services of Western Washington, are excited to announce that construction officially commenced on Martha’s Place on Monday, November 1, 2021. When complete Martha’s Place will be a 70-unit Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) development for households experiencing homelessness in Skagit County.

The new development will be located at 1925 E College Way in Mount Vernon. When complete, the 70 total units will include 50 studio units and 20 one-bedroom units. Residents will receive 24/7 on-site supportive services, provided by Catholic Community Services, with a focus on long-term stability.

Public Health, and its housing partners, recognize the great need for low-cost, low-barrier housing options in Skagit County. The 2020 Point in Time Count found 314 Skagitonians experiencing homelessness on a single night in January, 73 of whom were chronically homeless.

“Homelessness impacts far too many community members in Skagit County,” said Jennifer Johnson, Skagit County Public Health Director. “The goal of this project is to provide safe-haven for those who need it the most, with the added benefit of a strong support network that helps ensure long-term success for residents.”

This project is funded by Skagit County HOME funds, Skagit County 0.1% Behavioral Health Sales Tax funds, the city of Mount Vernon, Washington State Housing Trust Fund, low-income housing tax credits awarded by the Washington State Housing Finance Commission, Enterprise Community Partners, and Heritage Bank.

Martha’s Place is projected to open to residents in the winter of 2023.
