SKAGIT COUNTY COMMISSIONER
APPOINTED TO PUGET SOUND COUNCIL
Gov. Christine Gregoire appointed Skagit County Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt to
the Puget Sound Council in October. The Puget Sound Council provides guidance
to the Puget Sound Action Team Partnership, which defines, coordinates and implements
Washington state's environmental agenda for Puget Sound.
A Mount Vernon resident,
Dahlstedt is a fourth-generation agri-businessman and farms 400 acres in the
Skagit Valley. Dahlstedt has served as a Skagit County Commissioner since 2000.
In addition, he is the vice president of the Western District of the Washington
State Association of Counties, and he chairs the association's Food Safety Committee.
He also serves on the association's Agriculture and Rural Affairs Steering Committee.
Dahlstedt is a member of the board of directors of Pro Fac Cooperative, a major
supplier of fruit and vegetable products for Birdseye Foods. Dahlstedt is also
an active volunteer for numerous civic, church and other organizations.
The Puget Sound Council includes 11 representatives from business, agriculture,
the shellfish industry, environmental organizations, local and tribal governments
and the Legislature. Dahlstedt will represent county government. Council members
normally serve four-year terms, Dahlstedt, however, will serve until July 1,
2007, filling out the remainder of former council member Rhea Miller's term.
Miller resigned this summer.
