LAWMAKERS MEET TO DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORTATION IN SKAGIT AND ISLAND COUNTIES
OAK HARBOR - Next week the regional transportation policy board for Skagit and Island Counties will identify and discuss transportation challenges and opportunities that are important to residents in both Skagit County and Island County. The policy board makes decisions that affect Skagit County and Island County's transportation systems and planning processes for the next 20 years. The policy board invites the public to attend the Island and Skagit County Regional Transportation Planning Organization Policy Board meeting from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Oak Harbor City Hall Council Chambers, 865, Southeast Barrington Drive, Oak Harbor. There will be opportunities to ask questions and provide input.
The policy board prioritizes transportation projects and decides how and where to spend federal funding for regional projects. Skagit County and Island County will continue to work together to ensure that their individual transportation systems connect with one another. The regional policy board consists of state representatives and elected representatives from the cities, counties, towns, ports, tribes and transit agencies within Skagit and Island Counties. The meeting will cover several topics and updates including; the Washington State Transportation Plan, WSDOT's highway project report, Washington State Ferries' activities, the legislature, and the reauthorization of the six-year federal transportation bill.
