FLOOD UPDATES: Forecast revised, moderate flood stage expected in Mount Vernon in net 48 hours.

National Weather Service revised its previous forecast today. A flood watch has been issued for the Skagit for December 1, 2021.

The Skagit River is currently receding but is now expected to begin climbing again this afternoon, and crest at in Concrete at around 4 a.m. tomorrow, December 1, at 29.74 feet (minor flood stage). The Skagit river is then expected to crest at 30.03 feet (Moderate Flood stage) in Mount Vernon at 10 p.m. tomorrow, December 1.

Similarly, the Samish river is currently receding, but is expected to rise again with a crest tomorrow, December 1 at around 10.5 feet. Forecast for the Samish river are generally considered less accurate than for the Skagit. Given high soil saturation, localized flooding of smaller streams, creeks and ditches is likely.

At these river levels, we do not expect widespread impacts from mainstem flooding. However, residents should be prepared to take action. High soil saturation levels and repeated flood stage events increase the likelihood for landslides and levee or dike issues. No imminent threats are known, but residents are advised to make plans to protect their homes, families and livestock.
