SKAGIT COUNTY RECEIVES COMMUNITY EXCELLENCE AWARD FROM MICROSOFT
SKAGIT COUNTY Representatives from Microsoft Corporation were on hand yesterday to present their Community Excellence Award to Skagit County. Al Cabroloff and Steve Finney of Microsofts State and Local Government division commended Skagit County for bringing services closer to the people, and connecting citizens to the inner workings of government. Skagit County has a tremendous reputation with your peers, said Cabroloff. Moving public service to the internet, allows government to be more responsive to needs of the public. This has the added benefit of increasing our efficiencies while reducing operational costs, said Skagit County Information Services Director Mike Almvig. Last summer, Skagit County scored a top ten ranking in the nations first Digital Counties Survey, placing fifth in the nation for counties with less than 150,000 residents. Skagit County was one of only two counties in the Pacific Northwest to receive top 10 ranking. Skagit Countys website, www.skagitcounty.net is designed around the citizens ease of access and not county department structure, according to Almvig. The site embodies our vision for digital government and is the center of county information and resources. Almvig said the site is designed with a services forward approach that places the needs of constituents first and foremost, containing more than 20,000 searchable pages. Our hats are off to our entire staff. This really shows our commitment to technology in Skagit County, said Commissioner Ted Anderson.
