“NIGHT OF 1,000 STARS” TRAFFIC SAFETY EMPHASIS PATROL

Wintertime driving can be hazardous. When mixed with alcohol it becomes deadly. That’s why law enforcement agencies in Skagit County are joining their counterparts throughout Washington State on Friday and Saturday, December 12 and 13, for the 18th annual “Night of 1,000 Stars” traffic safety emphasis patrol. Each “star” represents the badge worn by an on duty law enforcement officer working to keep you and your family safe.

Impaired driving caused by alcohol – or some other drug – is the primary reason why people die in motor vehicle crashes. This statewide enforcement will remove drinking drivers from our roads. Officers will also be on the lookout for people who speed, drive aggressively, are not wearing a seatbelt, or violate other traffic laws.

The “Night of 1,000 Stars” is a cooperative effort involving the statewide Community DUI/Traffic Safety Task Forces, the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, and law enforcement agencies throughout Washington State. Agencies in Skagit County planning to participate in this effort include the Washington State Patrol, Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, Police Departments from Anacortes, Burlington, Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley and the Swinomish Police Department.
