COMMISSIONER TED ANDERSON APPOINTED TO STATE BOARD OF NATURAL RESOURCES

OLYMPIA – Skagit County Commissioner Ted Anderson was appointed to the Washington State Board of Natural Resources, Friday, December 3, 2004. The position is selected by a vote of Washington State’s 17 timber counties. The board establishes policies to guide the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in managing the state’s lands and resources. The board requests and evaluates recommendations, approves or disapproves trust land timber and mineral sales, and establishes the sustainable harvest level of forest lands.

Anderson, who is serving his third term as a Skagit County Commissioner, joins fellow board members;

  • The Honorable Doug Sutherland, Commissioner of Public Lands
  • The Honorable Terry Bergeson, Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction
  • Bruce Bare Ph.D., Dean, College of Forest Resources, University of Washington
  • R. James Cook, Ph.D., Interim Dean, College of Agriculture & Home Economics, Washington State University.
  • Bob Nichols, Ph.D. Designee for Governor Gary Locke
“This is an incredible honor and opportunity to serve Skagit County and the State of Washington. Managing and sustaining our resources is a responsibility I take very seriously,” said Anderson.

The board guides decisions about the state trust lands, most of which were given at statehood to provide funds to build public schools and universities. The board also guides DNR’s stewardship of the state’s Natural Area Preserves, Natural Resources Conservation Areas, and aquatic or submerged lands.
