SKAGIT COUNTY PLANNING
AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES MAKES CHANGES TO SPEED UP BUILDING PERMIT PROCESS
SKAGIT COUNTY - Skagit County's Planning and Development Services Department
is changing the way to apply for a building permit to speed up the review process.
"Experience shows that an incomplete application or skipping steps of the
process can cause unnecessary delay," said Skagit County Building Official
Bill Dowe. "Our goal is to make the process as fast as possible."
The new process will be similar to making an online purchase, according to Dowe.
The new building permit process will be a similar concept, making sure vital
information is provided at application before moving to the next step.
The main prerequisites to submit a building permit are:
- Can the project happen
at all? Lot certification answers this question.
- Where? A critical areas
review identifies environmentally sensitive or hazardous areas and provides
guidelines for the location of the development.
- Is a septic design and
proof of water required?
A new application form is
on the Skagit County website, www.skagitcounty.net under Planning and Development
Services/forms. Forms are available at 1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon,
where applications must be submitted.
