SKAGIT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CONTINUES EMPHASIS PATROLS

This Friday night, law enforcement officers in Skagit County will participate in the 12th annual "Night of 1,000 Stars" DUI emphasis patrol. The 1,000 stars refer to the badges worn by the one thousand officers who will be involved in this activity throughout the state. Last year, 270 impaired drivers were removed from our state's roadways. Four of those DUI arrests were in Skagit County.

On Saturday night, law enforcement will be conducting another "Drive Hammered, Get Nailed" emphasis patrol. This activity has been going on statewide since November 11, and will continue throughout the rest of this year.

While these emphasis patrols concentrate on removing drinking drivers from our roads, officers will also be on the lookout for people who are speeding, not wearing seat belts
or committing other traffic violations.

People who are drinking are urged to select a designated driver or make other arrangements to avoid getting behind the wheel after drinking. In addition, cold weather occurring this time of the year can create hazardous conditions on our roadways, and all drivers are urged to exercise caution when driving in inclement weather.
