SKAGIT RIVER IS ON FLOOD WATCH

SKAGIT COUNTY - The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Skagit River. The current forecast (updated at 1:55 p.m today) predicts the river to go over flood stage at Concrete by 8 p.m., Friday, with a predicted peak of 33.6’ at 10 am Saturday. For Mount Vernon, the current prediction is for a peak of 31.6 ft at 4 a.m. Sunday morning. Flood stage in Concrete and Mount Vernon is 28 ft.

Currently there are no road closures in Skagit County but there may be some water on roadways in rural areas related to drainage issues. Skagit County Public Works and Department of Emergency Management staff will be monitoring conditions through the evening.

The public is advised to not drive through standing water on roadways and obey “closed road” signs.
On the Samish River and tributaries, residents are advised to keep a close watch on possible flood waters. For those who may need sandbags, please contact your local fire department.

County and other officials and work crews continue to monitor the situation closely and take appropriate actions as necessary. Additional news releases will be issued as new information warrants.
