SOUTH FIDALGO ISLAND MEETING SCHEDULED
Second event to affirm issues, set direction for future work

SKAGIT COUNTY – Skagit County announced today the second of several public meetings to develop a long-range plan for South Fidalgo Island will take place Wednesday, January 10, 2006 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Lindgren Hall at the Walla Walla College Marine Station.

The meeting originally was scheduled for November 29, 2006, but heavy snowfall forced cancellation of the event.

The January meeting will present comments and issues raised during an October 18th event where residents were asked to weigh in on aspects of an earlier planning process many felt went astray when a citizen’s advisory committee recommended re-zoning most of the area. As requested by some in October, the meeting will also include an “open mike” opportunity for participants to voice concerns. Time permitting, organizers indicate they’ll work to outline and gather feedback on draft strategies that support the overall vision already endorsed by a large majority of participants.

A two-day “charrette” style meeting will take place in early February. The process is expected to produce a draft plan by mid-2007 from which the County will prepare a fully detailed land use and policy framework.

Lindgren Hall is located at 15510 Rosario Beach Road, at the Walla Walla College Marine Center on South Fidalgo Island.

Extensive information, including meeting agendas, dates, documents and exercises will be posted on the project website at www.fidalgo.studiocascade.com. Residents are encouraged to contact County planner Jeroldine Hallberg for more information.
