General Information/Property Tax Deferral
The Senior Citizen
and Disabled Person Property Tax and Special Assessment Deferral Program,
which requires an income of $48,912 or less, postpones payment of your
property taxes. Unlike the exemption program, this program is not a reduction
of your taxes. On your behalf, the Department of Revenue pays the deferred
property taxes and special assessments to the county where you live. The
amount of the postponed taxes and/or special assessment, plus eight- percent
simple interest, becomes a lien in favor of the state until the total
amount is repaid . A lien, filed with the county auditor, shows the state
of Washington as having an interest in your property.
