Driving your electric car through flood waters can result in danger to you and others, as well as expensive damage to your car.

Battery Fires

When electric cars are driven through salt water, the salt will rapidly corrode the car battery. This can cause the battery to short circuit, overheat, and catch fire.

I drove my electric car through flood water. What do I do?

To make sure your car remains safe to drive, you can get it checked by a certified technician. They can examine your battery for signs of corrosion or damage.

Can I drive my non-electric car through floods?

Driving any car through floods can be dangerous. Non-electric cars have smaller batteries, but they are still susceptible to damage from salt water.

Even small amounts of water can float your car. If the water is moving, just a few inches of water across the road can sweep your car away.
