SKAGIT COUNTY ADOPTS 2003 BUDGET, COPIES AVAILABLE ONLINE

SKAGIT COUNTY - Copies of the 2003 Annual Budget for Skagit County are available online at www.skagitcounty.net The Skagit County Commissioners adopted the budget on December 19, 2002, and signed a resolution establishing goals and objectives for the 2003 Fiscal Year Budget on December 30, 2002. Forecasts for revenue growth are approximately 2.8 percent while expenses are forecasted to grow at a rate of 4.8 percent.

The 2003 Skagit County budget includes operating revenues of $106,431,307 and operating expenditures of $113,471,086. While it would appear that that this budget appears to be in a deficit position, many agencies are planning on using reserve balances to meet "one-time" infrastructure and technology needs, according to Skagit County Budget Director Brad Whaley.

In line with the requirements of Initiative 747, the Board of County Commissioners chose to budget for a one percent increase in property taxes for both the General Levy and the Road Levy. The one percent increase will generate $137,763 and $87,726 respectively in property tax revenue. New construction for both levies will generate $441,830 in the General Levy and $346,015 for the Road Fund.
