Public invited to meeting to review and comment on Skagit County Draft Open Space Plan

SKAGIT COUNTY – The public is invited to attend a meeting to review and comment on the Draft Open Space Plan focusing on Skagit County Urban Growth Areas. The meeting is sponsored by Skagit Council of Governments (SCOG) and will be held at Skagit Station, in Downtown Mount Vernon on Monday, April 14, 2008 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Skagit County is forecast to grow by over 46,000 new residents by the year 2025. This is about the same as the 2007 population of Mount Vernon and Anacortes combined. Most of this growth is targeted to be in the county’s ten Urban Growth Areas: Anacortes, Burlington, Sedro-Woolley, Mount Vernon, Concrete, Hamilton, Lyman, Bayview Ridge, and Swinomish.

At the same time the cities/urban growth areas intensify, areas must be set aside for open space within and between the cities to maintain our quality of life. This plan identifies where these areas should be and outlines a method to pay for open space projects.
