COUNTY MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS POSTS NEW WEBSITE WITH VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
SKAGIT COUNTY – Skagit County Public Health Department has posted a new website for the Skagit County Medical Reserve Corps (SCMRC) at www.skagitcounty.net/scmrc. The Skagit County Departments of Public Health and Emergency Management have partnered to establish the SCMRC.
“Through the SCMRC, volunteers can help neighbors, prevent the spread of disease, and mitigate the impact of all hazard events on public wellness and public health preparedness. SCMRC volunteers have skills and experience that are vital to public health preparation for and response to crisis. When many cannot afford health care, their support of prevention efforts is especially valuable,” said Skagit County Department of Health Director Peter Browning. “By enrolling in the SCMRC, volunteers show their willingness to use their skill--in the company of other committed health professionals--to the greater benefit of our community. We know their contribution of time and talent to the Skagit County Medical Reserve Corps will benefit our county and for that we are heartily thankful."
Any major catastrophe in Skagit County will overrun our usual supply of healthcare workers. Whether it’s a pandemic flu outbreak, a major flood or earthquake, or even a volcano eruption, preparation for public health preparedness is essential. Skagit County Public Health Nurse Donna Smith is the director of Skagit County’s recently registered Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).
The Medical Reserve Corps program is sponsored by the Office of the Surgeon General, in cooperation with the White House's USA Freedom Corps and the Department of Homeland Security's Citizen Corps.
