Content Description

Content Summary: The Skagit County Tax Parcels are intended to depict Assessor tax accounts. This data set is available in both ArcGIS and AutoCAD format. The AutoCAD format is considered to be the production tax parcel data set and is updated on a daily basis while the ArcGIS file format was extrapolated from the AutoCAD data set on the publication date noted above. The ArcGIS data set is designed to meet specific Skagit County business needs and is updated as needed. These needs don't require an exact copy or geometric replication of the production AutoCAD data set. Annotation and other related property features are purposely left out of the ArcGIS data set.

Content Purpose: The parcels shown are Assessor tax parcels. They were created for the County Assessor to represent tax segregations. They do not represent "buildable lots". For example, if a parcel is placed in the "open space taxation program", it may be segmented into two pieces. One piece is taxed for "open space" while the other is reserved for "residential" use. This shows up as a parcel with a boundary line separating the different tax designations. The ArcGIS data set contains tax parcel polygons and selected codes for Skagit County in its entirety. Only the parcel identification number (PIN) is included as an attribute. Extensive attribute information from both the Assessor's database and the AutoCAD source data are omitted. This coverage provides an interim source of countywide property polygons suitable for resource level map displays. Map data shown is a representation of the legal description, but does not necessarily give a true geographic location. The accuracy of this data varies and should not be used for precise measurement or calculations.

Supplemental Information: This data set does not contain database attributes relating to property ownership, actual or intended use, special development conditions, special district overlays, or pending changes in designation. For a fee, you can obtain a digital copy of the Assessor Database directly from the Skagit County Assessor Office. This may be helpful if you want to join the ArcGIS Tax Parcel data set with the Assessor Database.

Our digital data is copied to our ftp server every day so that you can be assured of getting the most current information. However, digital data updates may only occur periodically so be sure to check the publication date in the metadata. You can view the Assessor Parcel (CAD format) maps via our "Interactive County Map Viewer". The Assessor maps are updated every night, therefore, you will always be looking at the previous days changes.
Printed copies of these maps are produced by Skagit County GIS and are available for review or purchase via the Skagit County GIS web site (see Map Gallery for viewing PDF files or Order a Printed Map for hard copy purchase).
