Drug Court is an intensive two-year therapeutic court program. Its participants are individuals who are charged with felony offenses who have substance use disorders and are willing to engage in treatment to address issues related to substance use disorder, mental health, and long-term recovery. Drug Court is designed to promote public safety while addressing each participant’s need for recovery. The program draws upon the expertise and cooperation of a multi-disciplinary team including Skagit County Superior Court, the Skagit County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the Skagit County Public Defender’s Office, law enforcement, and substance use treatment providers. Defendants who are interested in Drug Court must talk to their attorney and initiate the application process for the program through their attorney. The application can be found here. Observers and participants of Drug Court are expected to be familiar with the rules and expectations of the program which are designed for a successful recovery. Any questions about the program should be directed to the defense attorney or treatment provider.
