Construction and Demolition Debris

Save money through reuse and recycling!

Recycling construction and demolition materials (also known as C&D or CDL) is usually cheaper than trash disposal. You may also find places that will pay you for some materials or take them for free.
Recyclable or reusable materials may include wood, metal, concrete, bricks, lumber, asphalt shingles, carpet, drywall, polystyrene (Styrofoam), cardboard, glass, plastic, and soil. Contact potential recycling and reuse facilities ahead of time, and describe materials carefully. Ask about hours, fees, and any special instructions.

Skagit County Transfer & Recycling Station

The Skagit County Transfer & Recycling Station accepts construction and demolition debris as garbage. Size restrictions apply.
Please note: Due to size restrictions, construction and demolition debris are not accepted at our Sauk and Clear Lake sites.

  • 2x6, 2x4, and smaller lumber shall be no longer than 8 feet
  • 4x4, 4x6, 4x8 or similar lumber shall be no longer than 6 feet
  • Larger lumber or poles shall be no longer than 4 feet
  • Plywood or other flat materials shall be no larger than 4 square feet

Materials that are not accepted at the Skagit County disposal sites include:

  • Petroleum contaminated soils
  • Grease – food preparation wastes
  • Asbestos containing materials
  • Catalyst
  • Sod, seeds, bulb, or sawdust
  • Hazardous, liquid, or chemical wastes
  • Creosote wood
  • Wall metal pipe or structural steel

Solid Waste Flow Control
Skagit County Code (SCC 12.18) requires that solid waste generated or collected in Skagit County be delivered to a designated disposal site within the County. Certain exceptions exist, such as for designated recyclable materials delivered to a recycling or composting facility, and for wastes that are not accepted at the designated disposal sites. Waste generated in a city or town must also comply with these flow control requirements.
